Hi Everyone,
Parting is such sweet sorrow….Thanks for the memories…Close a door and a window opens….all these mean so much more at this time.
I opened Sunshine Carousel Quilt Shop on April 14, 1990. My youngest was 10, the store had 250 ten-yard bolts of fabric and my sales for the day were $4.59. Fabric sold for $4.59 per yard and I was really worried that I would get negative comments when I had to increase prices to $4.69 per yard. Wow…what a journey we’ve all had. So many of you found little Grantham, NH. The classes, the quilts, the retreats, the quilts, the quilts, the quilts, the laughter, the tears, and most important – the friends. I’ll miss you guys….some of whom I’ll probably never see again. The shop has been a meeting place, a place of comfort and hopefully a safe place for all. That was the plan and if we happened to make some unbelievable quilts along the way – what a blessing.
Don’t think I’m retiring…that’s not about to happen. Just closing the “brick & mortar” store.
Over a year ago, I started a website by the name of Quilting Books, Patterns and Notions. Over the years, you wonderful quilters have accumulated huge stashes of fabrics. “Can’t buy any more…got to use what I have” has been an increasingly popular phrase. Well…I decided maybe I could help you use all that fabric that you have stored in Oh, so many places. Then….you can buy MORE !!!!!! That site has been well accepted, we’re advertising in Fons and Porter Magazine and Easy Quilts and it’s gotten to the point that I need more time to focus on the sites. We’ve found a presence on the web has been important as that’s where so many people shop. AND…..I have another site in progress and you’ll hear more about that as soon as it’s ready for you. Quilters Auction will be launched soon. There will be tons of fabrics and quilting supplies at auction prices. It’ll be a fun site – bid on your favorite grouping of fat ¼’s or yards of fabrics and do what’s so important these days…save some $$$$$. We all like that !
My daughter calls this a Hard, Right Turn. It hasn’t been an easy decision, but I’ve been working towards this date for a couple of years now. It is the right decision and we’re moving on in a hard, right turn.
Hey…I GET SATURDAYS OFF !!!!!!! That hasn’t happened for 20 years !!!!!!
Keep watch of the www.scqs.com site as it will gradually be transformed into a “Quilts for Sale” site. Gotta do something with all those quilts just waiting to go to a good home J
Block of the Month people are not to worry. We’ll still hold our classes each month so you can see your blocks and the finished quilts will be done soon. Our non-local BOM participants also need not to worry. You’re kits are all cut and will continue to be sent as usual. I’ll post a picture of the finished quilts as soon as possible so you can order your finishing kit.
